Big 6—Information Literacy for the Information Age
Everyone goes through the Big6
stages—consciously or not—when they seek or apply information to solve a problem or make a decision. It’s not necessary to complete these stages in a linear order, and a given stage does not have to take a lot of time. We have found that in almost all successful problem-solving situations, all stages are addressed.
The Big6 Skills are applicable to all subject areas across the full range of grade levels. Students use the Big6 Skills whenever they need information to solve a problem, make a decision, or complete a task.

READ California
Reading is a skill that is fundamental to critical thinking and reasoning. A child cannot learn math or science, English or history without the ability to read. Reading is everyone's responsibility. All Californians, including parents, teachers, employers, neighbors, workers, veterans, doctors, lawyers, and students, have a responsibility to ensure that our students are reading. Recognizing this, California Governor's Office and the Legislature have made improving education skills a top priority. READ California
combines a multi-media approach using advertising, special events and publicity to promote the good works of reading programs and the people behind them.
